JBlueLineSE - Standard Edition

Installation

There are two parts to the installation of the standard edition software.

1. Java Runtime Environment - You may skip this step if the free on-line version of JBlueLine works for you.
2. JBlueLineSE itself

Java Runtime Environment

For this software to work on your computer you will need to have the Java 5 Runtime Engine installed. This software is available for free from Sun's web site.

• You need to scroll down to "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11" (or later) and click 'download'. Then install the software on your computer once it has down loaded. This software will enable many other web sites to deliver content, not just this one.
• Accept the license agreement
• What you want is "jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe". This should be the first blue hyper-link for "Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language" (15.8 MB). DO NOT CLICK the check box to the side, that will offer to download a .JNLP file instead of a .EXE file.
• After installing it says 'close all browsers so it can finish installing'. Do this now.

JBlueLineSE

To make the Standard Edition of JBlueLine available as a normal local application, download the JAR file to your local disk and then create a short cut to it from your desktop if required. As long as you can locate the JAR file, you can double click it to start the application.

• JAR file, click the link and choose "Save" to save to your local disc. You also get the option to "Open", and this will work like Web Start but without the additional deployment checking it provides. In the unlikely event you get prompted to save a ".zip" file, then you will need to save the file under the suggested name and then rename it with a ".jar" extension afterwards, e.g. "JBlueLineSE.jar". Note, that you may need to change a setting under Windoze to display file extensions before you can rename the file.
• Java Web Start provides a really simple way to deploy J2SE applications. It should ensure that you have the correct version of Java installed, and then runs the application. The only hitch is you need J2SE version 5 to start with and the webhost needs to have correctly setup their MIME-Types. The latter has not happened, so this method of invocation is unavailable at present.
